What is Sophos?

Sophos is an enterprise-class anti-virus solution for workstations, servers, and e-mail systems.

Why Sophos?

Our staff have been testing and reviewing anti-virus solutions for over 20 years. In that time, the landscape has changed significantly, and a lot of the major players in the Anti-virus industry have come and gone. There are a LOT of solutions available in the market now, and all have their benefits and drawbacks. In all the time we’ve been reviewing anti-virus products, the only one we have seen that encompasses most of the benefits desired in a solution is Sophos. Specifically:

1. Centralized Management Console: While many vendors have a centralized management interface, the Sophos Management Console provides a number of different views to see the status of the devices protected by Sophos, giving the site contact a way to get a quick “health check” of the entire network.
2. Cross-platform Integration: Sophos is the ONLY solution we have found that uses the same update definitions, update process, and reporting system for Windows and Macintosh workstations. If you have a mixed-platform environment, Sophos gives you a single anti-virus solution to manage your Macs and PCs in exactly the same way using exactly the same tools. Other vendors have Macintosh products that they sell in addition to their Windows products, and they may even be called the same, but those products either do not have a centralized management interface for the Macs or the Macs have a separate management system, requiring system administrators to do extra work.
3. Resource utilization: Sophos uses far fewer computer resources than other products on the market, meaning that users are more likely to leave their anti-virus software running since it doesn’t slow their system down to keep it actively monitoring their system for viruses.
